First off in today’s smes-related post is the news that smessy has, after over 1½ years of Game Maker usage, FINALLY learnt how to handle the simple coding needed to read and write ini files. Or at least, I hope so. He might be using a library. :\

I don’t know what he thinks they’ll do, or if he’ll actually be able to use them properly, all I know is they’re coming to THE HAWK’S DOCK.

… on the Game “THE HAWK’S DOCK beta version 2.0”

“the smes is back and has learned to make .ini files so let’s make this Dock even better and get rolling fast.”

“but now that I know how to write .ini files I can add the next feature to my dock making it even better.”

“He is the one who brought up the fight and started spreading bad rumors about me which were not true if these continue he will get a taste of my Game Maker made virus with out realizing it and opening the program.”

“Wow, that is more supporting evidence of your “world peace” And what were the rumors he was spreading? They certainly can’t be worse than your lies *cough Microsoft cough*”

mrsmes wrote:

“well *cough* I tested it and *cough* *cough* it was harmless but with a DLL in it, to control the speed of the drive slot it may turn it into a jet.

[Oh no. >_<]

And lastly for today, finishing once again on the YoYo Games Forums, we take a look at smessy’s latest failure to understand. Today, our concept is rating systems.

… in the Forum Topic “10 star rating system”

yoshermon wrote:

“After a while on the new Yoyogames, I got annoyed at the rating system. 5 stars to rate 25,000+ games just isn’t enough. For example, a game with a 3.9 rating can be a peice of crap while another game with a 3.9 can be a very popular featured game! I just think we should make it a 10 star system so there will be more diversity between good and not so good games.
Anyone agree/disagree/complain?”

mrsmes wrote:

“good idea but so many people will think it’s unfair and that a 3 star rating is almost as bad as a 1 star rating and so they will think their 3 star quality games are worthless and no longer recognized, this will put people down and dampen peoples spirits and they will have less ideas to improve their games or start a new and soon to be better game which is not what we need while fighting off our rivals.

[That’s definitely a result of autism, the fact that the ratings would be scaled up with the new maximum was implied, but he didn’t get it. :(]

Yal wrote:

“Actually, it’s been proved scientifically that rating systems that range between 4 and 6 are much more efficent than all other values. So, well, I don’t think a 10-scale would be good. Also, nobody would know exactly what they think about a game… “rate 6 or 7? Maybe 5?” Alas, nobody would think a game deserved a 10, but downraters would still be able to rate 1s…”

mrsmes wrote:

well I was thinking every time it stretches over maximum ratings on the star ratings it just adds another star to the slot for the game and the ones with the most stars really make it to v most popular list and the front page on the first page.

[I shouldn’t need to say that it’s impossible for the overall (*average*) rating to go above the maximum.]

If yoyo did go to 10 stars, they would definently double all the ratings (3’s would change to 6’s, 5’s to 10’s, etc.) so it would solve that problem.”

  1. So Mr. Smes finally understood after a week bothering me, asking stupid questions?

    Good.

  2. .ini files are easy. I have no problem coding them. However, in smes’s case, it might be hard. Hopefully we’ll have customized shortcuts soon.

  3. Want my logs?

  4. “Want my logs?”

    ha ha. Of course! 😛
