August 20, 2009 at 03:59 | In Everything | 13 CommentsWhat makes a person hate you or like you? Anything from words to bodily movements and even the people you hang around can affect the way someone feels about you. But that’s in real life right? What about here, on the Internet?
I’ve discovered quite a few things that make you or break you on the Interwebz. Here’s a short list and, under each bullet, a reason why the things that we do each day here influence what people think of you:
- Grammar.
This one is a no brainer. If you talk like this, people will probably think of you as normal. h0\/\/3v3r if you type like I typed the word “however,” people will probably hate you and be annoyed by what you did. If you talk with the utmost highest standard of grammar, people will think you are a grammarnazi. AKA, prick. Also, speak in the latest version of a language, and not the version that people used hundreds of years ago. That’s a big NO-NO.
- Groupings.
Although people usually don’t consider stereotypes on the Internet, there is somewhat of a grouping system within the community. It’s usually only a split between people with common sense and people who are completely insane. On DHF, DDNN, and Flowarcade, however, there is no group distinction, as idiots and normal people get along well.
- Knowledge.
If you join a specific type of forum for a specific thing, you should know some things about that specific subject. If not, be prepared to be called either a n00b, a nub, a nubcake, a loser, or be kicked out of said forum. This also applies to topics you post in; you should actually know what you are talking about before you post.
- Truthfulness.
This is the hardest point to describe. When you join a new forum you have, basically, a Tabula Rasa (for all you uneducated folks out there, it means a blank or “clean” slate). They don’t trust in you or think you are a liar. If you want everyone in the forum to think of you as an honest person, don’t make a lot of outrageous claims. As in, don’t make your second topic “I jumped on a terrorist plane, killed the terrorists, and landed the plane in the Hudson River.” Also, don’t purposely make lies up, as it will ruin your online reputation in said community, permanently.
- Individuality.
This one is a good point for both real life and Internet life. You should never conform to what everyone else does, whether it be watching innapropriate web content or even just an online trend. Make up your own stuff and be a leader. Make others follow your lead, and you should be respected, unless what you do is just plain stupid. Don’t be a tool!
- Leadership.
If you want respect in a community, you should try to be a leader. Make something for the forum, help with fixing up the forum, or try to gain the respect to become a staff of the forum.
In other news, Nate is awesome. Nate, the Paladin of Doom, is awesome. He deserves all credit for the creation of the famous disease, Enox-O-Pox, and for the creation of Krocs.
Also, Conure Master (formerly known as Metaridley86) is creating Budgie Tragedy 4. He has released his next demo for everyone to play. If you have ever played Budge Tragedy 3, you should know how awesome and original the series is. Now, let me shut up and you do the playing:

“But that’s in real life right? What about here, on the Internet?”
The internet is not another form of life, it is a tool for communication.
“basically, a Tabula Rasa…”
Except its Tabla Rasa, not Tabula.
“don’t make a lot of outrageous claims.”
Well you made a lot of outrageous claims in the past, and people believed you. It depends on your skill with social engineering.
“Also, don’t purposely make lies up, as it will ruin your online reputation in said community, permanently.”
You seem to have got away with lying to a community for 2 years.
“Make others follow your lead, and you should be respected, unless what you do is just plain stupid.”
You are the leader and are respected even though that what you do is just plain stupid.
This has been the most ironic post that you have ever written, and I pray to God that I may hear no more of it.

Is that all you can say to my 16 line comment?
Comment by Zeon — August 20, 2009 #
Yes it is, because it doesn’t matter what I say. You could care less. People learn from experience Zeon. I’ve learned that either 1) You can’t read or 2) You just don’t care about anything I say.
So instead of responding to your comment with the same sort of thing I responded with about three months ago, I’ll just passively reply to it.

The funny thing is is that that’s actually not too far from the truth. <:
